Noise Control

A TV crew enters the Welsh valleys to record a documentary on the effects of low flying jets on the rural community. A dull subject, you might think, but typical of the kind of stuff churned out by local news magazine programmes.

Alexis Bicat satirises the futility of such an enterprise, exposing the artificiality of the vox pop as a means to an end. The crew is jaded; the presenter treats his subjects with contempt; the interviews are set ups.

Of course, nothing goes right. The children of a single mother make too much noise and answer the questions wrongly - i.e truthfully. The pilot of a jet creates mayhem and all ends in pieces.

The filmmaking is rough and ready, with a certain lack of finesse, but Bicat's sense of humour prevails.
